"How does your system work?," is a question we are frequently asked when we discuss the Knox Box system. Citizens Fire Company has a Knox Box key securely housed in each of our apparatus.
While not in use, the keys are locked inside of a control unit. Each control unit can only be unlocked via radio transmission, which comes from the Jefferson County 911 Center. The fire department must request that the key be released for specific apparatus and this request is recorded, maintaining a date/time record of when the key was used, ensuring security.
